Caregiver College

Mark your calendars now and plan to join us at the Adult Care Center for Caregiver College in September 2011.

The Center will be hosting its annual Caregiver College during National Adult Day Services Week, September 19-23, 2011. Hour-long sessions focusing on health issues of special importance to caregivers will begin at noon on Monday through Friday, September 19-23.

We have a wonderful week of programs planned for the week.  On Monday, September 19, David Edwards, Medicare Counselor for the Central VA Area Agency on Aging will talk about Medicare, especially Medicare Part D.  On Tuesday, the 20th, The Rev. Philip Weeks, a caregiver for his wife, will talk about ways caregivers can control their frustrations;  Earl Guthrow, M.D., will talk about diabetes on the 21st.  Thursday's program will be presented by ACC staff members, Kathi Cresson, Medical Manager, and Sheryl Harris, Program Manager.  They will tell you where you can find the information you need when you need it.  And on Friday, the 23rd, Denise Scruggs, Director of the Beard Center on Aging at Lynchburg College, will present her very popular program on Laughter.

Hope you will join us!

White Glove Tea

Here’s a fun way to help  the Adult Care Center! The Adult Care Center will host the seventh annual White Glove Tea in Court Street United Methodist Church (621 Church Street) in historic downtown Lynchburg on Sunday, December 4th from 2:00-3:30 p.m. As in previous years, this elegant afternoon tea will be reminiscent of yesteryear and includes fine delicacies and entertainment. It is a fundraising event in support of the Adult Care Center and is one of this year’s Holiday Traditions in partnership with Lynch’s Landing. Tickets are $25 and will be on sale October 1st at the Adult Care Center.

The Adult Care Center is a non-profit agency which provides quality adult day health care services and caregiver support to residents of Lynchburg and the surrounding counties. Funds raised help support the programs and provide scholarship assistance for elderly and frail adults to attend the Center’s adult day care service.
