Maggie joined the team in 2018. Seeing the comfort we bring to both participants and family members every day gives Maggie great joy, and she can’t think of a better place to be. Maggie wishes she had known of the benefits of adult daycare before she discovered us. Her father would have loved the social atmosphere and could have benefited from the health monitoring, and her stepmother could have used the respite from the work and worry of long-term caregiving. Maggie was reading some light short stories aloud one afternoon, and one of the participants really seemed to be enjoying it, sharing his opinion as each story progressed. His ride picked him up before the activity was through, and he seemed reluctant to depart. The next morning, he came to tell Maggie how much fun he had the previous day, and to apologize for leaving before she was done. Even though this gentleman had dementia, he held on to the memory of the event long enough to share his thoughts with her. Maggie says she’s not sure she ever felt more important for such a simple act as reading a story.
Kyle Sharpe is a registered nurse from Virginia, currently studying to be a psychiatric nurse practitioner. He appreciates our mission because Adult Day exercises your muscles of compassion, allows you to connect with people society says aren’t worth connecting with, and gives you a chance to provide respite for families in need.
Sheila joined the team in 2003 and is our most senior team member in terms of service! She loves working with the elderly and having more one-on-one time to get to know each other, to building that “family feeling” that we have here. Her favorite moment is when she goes to the entrance in the morning and one gentleman comes in and gently taps her on her forehead as if he is blessing her every day.
Sharon joined our team in 2021. She enjoys working with the elderly, and has for 30 years. They are special people to her, and she will tell you to have patience with them. She also advocates for their right to be treated with dignity and respect. She wants to help take care of them to make sure their needs are met.
